2016 Call for Proposals - Learning Environment

In our continuing efforts to ensure health professions education programs occur in professional, respectful, and intellectually stimulating academic and clinical learning environments, and while recognizing the benefits of diversity and promotion of students’ attainment of competencies required of future health professionals, we are very pleased to offer project funding for members of Duke AHEAD with the support of Dean Andrews and Dean Broome.  This funding is intended to provide critical start up support for innovative projects which will enhance the learning environment for health professions students.  

Eligibility:  Duke University School of Medicine and School of Nursing faculty who are Duke AHEAD members. Membership information can be found here. Trainees and students may be included as collaborators.  One faculty member must be designated as the Principal Investigator/ point person. 

Reviews will be performed by a subcommittee of the Duke AHEAD steering committee and evaluated based on:

  • strength of development plan for improvement of learning environment
  • rigor of assessment plan (outcomes)
  • broader impacts (collateral benefits beyond study/project participants)
  • potential sustainability of project
  • organization and quality of proposal
  • dissemination plan

Up to six projects will be funded in amounts up to $10,000. Support will be limited to resources and services necessary for project implementation.  Funds cannot be used as salary support. The grant review committee does reserve the right to redistribute funds based on number of applications received.  Funds will be available beginning January 3, 2017 and must be used before December 31, 2017. 

The application will be submitted electronically at dukeahead.duke.edu/RFP.

 The submission site will close at 11:59 pm on November 30, 2016 and no late submissions will be accepted. Applicants will be notified on or before December 28, 2016.
