We are excited to offer an opportunity for faculty who are interested in health professions education as a career to apply for the 2023-2024 cohort of the Certificate in Health Professions Education & Teaching program. This 12-month program will allow up to 12 faculty, professional staff, or fellows from the School of Nursing, Physical Therapy Program, Physician Assistant Programs, School of Medicine MD Program, Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program, Duke University Health System, and Professors of the Practice of Medical Education, and Watts College of Nursing to participate.
The objectives of the program include:
- Support Faculty Development for health professions education
- Engage in an innovative educational project based on departmental or school need
- Produce an environment in which interprofessionals work and learn collaborative
- Develop a community of core faculty who could serve as educational resources for other faculty
- Provide mentorship to developing educators
The program details:
•12 month duration (Start date 7/17/2023; please note this is a Monday – all other sessions will be the 2nd Wednesday of each month).
•Attend one session per month (5:15-7:15 pm, 2nd Wednesday of each month, July-June) – the program will offer some in-person and some virtual sessions.
•Education mentors available
•Develop a project with measurable outcomes
•Present project locally at Duke AHEAD faculty development session
•Stipend - $1000 for project support.

Application process:
- Applicants may self-nominate by completing the application form here. You may download this form as a template to assist you.
- A letter of support from your Chair, Dean, or Director must accompany the nomination forms.
- Approximately 10-12 applicants will be chosen by the Duke AHEAD certificate steering committee based on the application and letter of support. The criteria for selection will include, but not be limited to, interest in interprofessional education and diversity of experiences.
