Margie Molloy, DNP, RN, CNE, CHSE
Margory “Margie Molloy” DNP, RN, CNE, CHSE is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Center for Nursing Discovery (CND) at the Duke University School of Nursing. Currently, Margie consults with faculty in the pre-licensure and advance practice programs to plan clinical laboratory experiences for nursing students, which include integration of the didactic component with hands on experience in the lab. Margie’s focus in the CND has been to make it a learner-centered environment. With the growth of simulation in nursing education, Margie is active in making students comfortable in this practice setting, with knowledge, skills and attitudes being transferable to the practice setting. She is involved in developing interprofessional collaborative experiences that focus on patient safety, effective teamwork and communication. She is interested in using innovative technologies to engage distance-based students in on campus simulation events as well as exploring strategies to augment reality. Margie was part of a team that was awarded the 2010 Campus Technology Innovators Award for “SimSoap…An Educational Twitter Soap Opera for Nurses”. She was the recipient of “Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award” in 2011 and 2012 and recipient of the Spring 2012 Catalyst Faculty Innovation Award with a colleague- Title of Project “Incorporating Obesity Education into the Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum”. In May 2015, Margie, along with two of her colleagues were recipients of the Bayada Award for Technological Innovation for the use of Google Glass to enhance realism of simulation for nursing students. Margie, most led the team effort that was successful in seeking accreditation for the simulation lab in the Teaching/Education Standard through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Nick Hudak, PA-C
Mr. Hudak is a Physician Assistant (PA) with 15 years of experience practicing neurology and 10 years of experience as a health professions educator. Mr. Hudak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and is a Faculty Clinical Coordinator with the Duke PA Program. His current clinical practice is in the Department of Neurology. Mr. Hudak has 15 years of experience working on health care teams and has been involved with interprofessional education at Duke for the past decade, contributing to initiatives in both classroom and clinical settings as well as through advancing research and scholarship. Mr. Hudak has been the principal investigator of two grant-funded projects related to interprofessional education, including Teach More About Teams – a novel faculty development program for clinicians supervising learners in clinical settings. He was a recipient of the 2019 Duke AHEAD Interprofessional Education Excellence Award. Mr. Hudak is currently pursuing a PhD in Education Research and Policy from North Carolina State University. Above all else, he is a husband and father to three fun-loving boys – the Hudak family enjoys spending time with one another, their wider family and family of friends, and adventuring at home, locally, and around the country.
Amy M. Pastva, PT, MA, PhD, CHSE
Amy M. Pastva is an Associate Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Division, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Duke University School of Medicine. She holds a B.S. in physical therapy, an M.A. in applied physiology, and a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular physiology, and completed a post-‐doctoral fellowship in cell biology. She has secondary appointments in the Departments of Medicine, Population Health Sciences, and Cell Biology. In addition to her faculty appointments, she is a Senior Fellow in the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development and a member of the Duke Pepper Older American Independence Center’s (OAIC) Physical Measures Core. She serves on the Steering Committee of the Duke Health Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency Program and of the Duke Chancellor's Translating Duke Health Initiative in Cardiovascular Health. She also serves on the American Physical Therapy Association’s ICU Rehabilitation Clinical Guideline Development Group and on the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section’s Research Committee. Dr. Pastva’s research is dedicated to optimizing care transition and rehabilitative strategies for improving clinical and patient-‐centered outcomes and positively influencing physiological mechanisms of health, especially in populations with medical complexity and multiple chronic conditions. Her work has been funded by private foundations, the NIH and PCORI. She is also a seasoned educator with over twenty years of experience and has a particular interest in the use of simulation- and team based-learning pedagogy in health professions curricula.
Dr. Erin Leiman is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Duke University Hospital. She is involved with graduate and undergraduate medical education, especially simulation and procedural competency. As the medical co-director of the Interprofessional Education Clinic, she brings together nursing, medical, physician assistant, pharmacy, and physical therapy faculty and students to care for patients in the urgent care setting. She has presented this novel interprofessional experience at national conferences. Additional interests include translating evidence-based principles into practice such as with the DUHS massive transfusion protocols as well as abdominal/GI emergencies. Dr. Leiman received her medical degree and earned AOA honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She trained at the Harvard-affiliated program in Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where she also served as Chief Resident. Prior to coming to Duke, Dr. Leiman was on faculty at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
