Blending the Blues: A Culinary Medicine Cook Along

Join us for a fun cook-a-long. Husband and wife team, Alice Ammerman (Nutrition) and Tom Keyserling (Medicine) - both Duke grads and now UNC faculty - will guide you through a Med-South (Mediterranean diet with a southern twist) heart-healthy locally sourced recipe. Duke and UNC faculty/staff/students will lead discussions on incorporating this into your personal professional practice. Families are welcome to attend and cook together! 


Recipe List: 

  • Olive oil (or other kinds of oil will do)
  • Onions/garlic
  • A sweet potato
  • A green or red/orange sweet pepper
  • Cup of grits
  • Cabbage – red or green
  • Any kind of greens – kale, collards, swiss chard
  • Eggs
  • Lemon or lime, or juice
  • Herbs and spices that you have around the house
  • Small amount of bacon or sausage if you like but not essential
