The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Certificate Program is a one-year, cohort-based, national leadership development certificate program. The program develops transformational leaders in medical education through evidence-based, collaborative learning, and reflective practice. LEAD is targeted to early career to mid-career professionals with faculty appointments who are aspiring to or are already in leadership roles in medical education. Professional staff in leadership roles who are working in medical education are also welcome to apply and will be considered on a space-available basis. Faculty and professional staff from non-member institutions will be considered on a space-available basis as well. The AAMC accepts 60 participants into this program each year.
The LEAD program will be held at the AAMC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. on April 30-May 1, 2019 and at the The Westin Atlanta Airport on September 4-5, 2019. In each workshop, participants complete a variety of hands-on, applied learning activities with guidance from expert LEAD faculty. In addition to the two workshops, the program also includes a virtual orientation session, pre- and post- workshop self-directed learning activities, and real-life application in the development and implementation of an individual Applied Leadership Focus (ALF), for which participants are required to present during a spring 2020 AAMC Regional Medical Education Meeting. Each Participant is assigned a national LEAD Coach to guide them through the program and to support their Applied Leadership Focus activity.
