Health Professions Education Certificate Program

We are excited to offer an opportunity for faculty who are interested in health professions education as a career to apply for our Certificate in Health Professions Education & Teaching

This 12-month program will include up to 15 faculty, professional staff, or fellows from across Duke's health professions education programs (e.g., School of Nursing, Physical Therapy Program, Physician Assistant Program, School of Medicine, Duke University Health System, Professors of the Practice of Medical Education, etc.).

Program Objectives:

  • Support Faculty Development for health professions education
  • Engage in an innovative educational project based on departmental or school need
  • Produce an environment in which interprofessional colleagues work and learn collaboratively
  • Develop a community of core faculty who serve as educational resources for other faculty
  • Provide mentorship to developing educators

Program Details:

  • There is no cost or fee for participation.
  • The program occurs over 12 months (July 2025 - June 2026), with participants attending one session per month (5:15-7:15 pm, 2nd Wednesday of each month)
  • Monthly sessions alternate between in-person and virtual formats
  • In addition to attending sessions, each participant develops an education project with measurable outcomes that is presented locally at a Duke AHEAD event
  • Education mentors are available to support participants in their projects

Application process:

Applicants will need to provide a current copy of their resume/CV, a short statement of interest (300 words maximum), and a letter of support from their Chair, Dean, or Director to accompany their application.

Statement of Interest to the Duke AHEAD Certificate Steering Committee:

  • Your interest and goals for participating in the program
  • How the certificate program will enhance your development as an educator
  • What strengths, skills, knowledge, or experiences you bring as a candidate for the program

Approximately 10-15 applicants will be chosen by the Duke AHEAD Certificate Steering Committee. The criteria for selection include, but are not limited to, demonstrated interest in interprofessional education and diversity of experiences.
