July kicked off the third year of the our certificate program. We are proud to welcome 18 new members from around the Health System. Members will participate in monthly classes based around our educator competencies and present a project at a year end reception. Congratulations to all chosen!

Call for Applications – DASHE (Duke AHEAD Supporting Health Professions Educators)
Health Professions Educators are often lacking resources needed to advance educational research and scholarship. In recognition of this challenge, we are proud to announce the second cycle of Duke AHEAD Supports Health Professions Educators (DASHE) program. DASHE Vouchers are designed to be used in a wide variety of ways by connecting our educators with high quality academic services that facilitate their engagement in scholarly work.
2018 AHEAD Grant Funding Available

Full Proposal Due: August 10, 2018
Background: We are pleased to offer project funding for members of Duke AHEAD. This funding mechanism is intended to provide critical start up for pilot research or funding for innovative projects that will generate new evidence, new ideas, and/or new approaches for improving health professions education. Our purpose is to support the vision, creativity, ingenuity, and scholarly works of the educators and educational researchers in the Duke AHEAD community.
2017 Certificate Program Celebrates Completion
The 2017 cohort of the Certificate in Health Professions Education & Teaching program celebrated the completion of the program with a reception and project presentations on January 22, 2018. The 11 members from all over Duke Health spent 12 months in the second year of the program based around the AHEAD educator competencies. Participants were tasked with creation of a project and met with mentors of different professions throughout the course of the program. Applications are now being accepted for the 2018-2019 program, to launch in July 2018.

We are excited to offer an opportunity for faculty who are interested in health professions education as a career to apply for our Certificate in Health Professions Education & Teaching.
Now in it's third year, this 12-month program will allow up to 10 faculty, professional staff, or fellows from the School of Nursing, Physical Therapy Program, Physician Assistant Programs, School of Medicine, Duke University Health System, and Professors of the Practice of Medical Education to participate.
Education Research Workshop Series

We are pleased to announce the creation of the Education Research Workshop Series, funded by Duke AHEAD. This workshop series, led by Drs. Ashley Grantham, Deborah Engle, and Kyle Covington, is designed to provide participants with an introduction to education research design, methodology, and implementation with a specific focus on education research within the health professions.
Interprofessional Education Excellence Awards Announced
Duke AHEAD distinguished members and steering committee members Anne Derouin and Elizabeth Ross were recently announced as the 2017 recipients of the Interprofessional Education Excellence awards. These awards honor individuals who have demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm, competence, and innovation in promoting IPE in teaching, scholarly work, and/or clinical education. Duke has purchased a subscription for you (or the preceptors at your practice) to a web resource, TeachingPhysician.org. The site offers videos, tips, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to in-depth information on precepting topics, such as:

Call for Poster Abstracts
Duke AHEAD in partnership with the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, Duke Health and the Office of Graduate Medical Education is excited to announce the fourth annual Health Professions Education Day, October 16, 2017. This celebration spotlights health professions educators and their remarkable innovations and achievements. As part of this year’s celebration, Duke AHEAD will be accepting poster abstracts for presentation.
