Gayathri Devi, PhD in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Sciences and a Duke Ahead member will present an abstract related to the development and goals of the Duke MERITS Education program for the Advancement of Translational Sciences at the 2017 Association for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ACTS) Meeting (April 19-21) in Washington, DC.

Member Dr. Nancy Knudsen has been named Assistant Dean for Learning Environment, and steering committee member Dr. Alison Clay is the new Assistant Dean for Clinical Education.  The Assistant Dean for Learning Environment will serve as the academic leader for programs and strategies to assure positive learning environments for all aspects of medical student education.  The Assistant Dean for Clinical Education will serve as the academic leader of the medical students’ clinical science education program. Congratulations to Dr. Clay and Dr. Knudsen!

Member Marilyn Oermann was the keynote speaker at the California Associate Degree Nursing Deans and Directors Leadership Conference recently.  She presented "Are Nurse Faculty Prepared for the Roles" and also led a plenary session "Gear Up for Program Evaluation."

The Duke University Direct Observation and Interprofessional Clinic recently treated its 1,000th patient! Duke University schools of nursing and medicine faculty members and students care for patients in this after-hours clinic, which is open four days a week from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Transforming Nursing Education conference that is sponsored by the Duke University School of Nursing’s Institute for Education Excellence, and all are invited to attend.
