Duke/UNC Collaborative Holds 2nd Event at DUSON

The Duke/UNC/VA Health Professions Education Collaborative held it's second event on 4/19 at Duke University School of Nursing.  The four hour event included simulation exercises with ED, inpatient, and outpatient examples of interprofessional practice and teaching methods throughout. The event concluded with a networking reception and debrief and discussion of further collaboration.  If you're interested in joining the collaborative list serve, email dukeahead@dm.duke.edu to learn about future opportunities. 

Certificate Program Project Accepted for Poster Presentation

Stacey O’Brien, MSN, RN-BC, recent graduate of the AHEAD certificate program, had her program project accepted for poster presentation at the 13th annual SENSES (Southeastern Nursing Staff Education Symposium) in October 2017. Congratulations!

AHEAD Members Named Assistant Deans in School of Medicine

Member Dr. Nancy Knudsen has been named Assistant Dean for Learning Environment, and steering committee member Dr. Alison Clay is the new Assistant Dean for Clinical Education.  The Assistant Dean for Learning Environment will serve as the academic leader for programs and strategies to assure positive learning environments for all aspects of medical student education.  The Assistant Dean for Clinical Education will serve as the academic leader of the medical students’ clinical science education program. Congratulations to Dr. Clay and Dr. Knudsen!

Oermann Keynote Speaker for National Conference

Member Marilyn Oermann was the keynote speaker at the California Associate Degree Nursing Deans and Directors Leadership Conference recently.  She presented "Are Nurse Faculty Prepared for the Roles" and also led a plenary session "Gear Up for Program Evaluation."

Duke IPE Clinic Treats 1000th Patient

The Duke University Direct Observation and Interprofessional Clinic recently treated its 1,000th patient! Duke University schools of nursing and medicine faculty members and students care for patients in this after-hours clinic, which is open four days a week from 5 to 9 p.m.

Associate Dean for Library Services Named

AHEAD Steering Committee Member, and Membership subcommittee chair, Patricia Thibodeau, MLS, MBA, Associate Dean for Medical Center Library Services and Archives, will be retiring effective March 31, 2017. Throughout her career, Pat has focused on the integration of technologies into information services and resources and the teaching of information management skills to students and health professions.
