Call for Poster Abstracts

Duke AHEAD in partnership with the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, Duke Health and the Office of Graduate Medical Education is excited to announce the fourth annual Health Professions Education Day, October 16, 2017. This celebration spotlights health professions educators and their remarkable innovations and achievements. As part of this year’s celebration, Duke AHEAD will be accepting poster abstracts for presentation. 

Nominations Now Being Accepted for AHEAD Interprofessional Excellence Award

Duke AHEAD is excited to announce the 2nd annual Interprofessional Excellence Award for professionals and staff. Two awards will be presented to professionals and staff; one for 5+ years IPE experience, and one for less than five years IPE experience.

Call for Submissions for Special Edition of Perspectives on Medical Education

Perspectives on Medical Education has announced a special edition inviting health professions education scholars to share the stories of lessons learned when new educational experiences didn't go as planned, but instead left you with new perspectives.  Read the full call here

Papers are due no later than 10/1/2017 with review decisions announced 12/1/2017. 

AHEAD Members Inducted to American Academy of Nurses Class of Fellows

Duke AHEAD Fellow Dr. Jennie De Gagne and member Dr. Kathy Trotter were recently inducted as fellows in American Academy of Nurses.  Fellow selection criteria include "evidence of significant contributions to nursing and health care, and sponsorship by two current Academy fellows." Applicants are reviewed by a panel comprised of elected and appointed fellows, and selection is based, in part, on the extent the nominee's nursing career has influenced health policies and the health and wellbeing of all. Congratulations to Drs. De Gagne and Trotter! 

Duke AHEAD Supporting Health Professions Educators - Call for Applications

Health Professions Educators are often lacking resources needed to advance educational research and scholarship. In recognition of this challenge, we are proud to announce the Duke AHEAD Supports Health Professions Educators (DASHE) program. DASHE Vouchers are designed to be used in a wide variety of ways by connecting our educators with high quality academic services that facilitate their engagement in scholarly work.

Duke AHEAD will offer vouchers for the following programs/services:

We are very pleased to offer project funding for members of Duke AHEAD.  This funding is intended to provide critical start up support for projects aimed at improving health professions education through innovative approaches to instruction or assessment. 

Associate Dean Interprofessional Education Services

Duke University Schools of Medicine and Nursing are seeking an Associate Dean of Inteprofessional Education Programs. The Associate Dean will create, develop, direct, and coordinate the Duke Health Center for Interprofessional Education & Care (IPEC) in collaboration with the Chancellor, Deans of the School of Nursing and Medicine, and leadership of all health professions programs.

Duke AHEAD member Jennie De Gagne's, PhD, DNP, RN-BC, CNE, ANEF, paper “Experience of Novice Clinical Adjunct Faculty: A Qualitative Study" was published in the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing. (Read abstract) Members Megan von Isenburg, MSLS, AHIP, Linda S. Lee, PhD, Marilyn H. Oermann, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN recently had an article about their AHEAD sponsored Writing Boot Camp published in JMLA. (Read Abstract)
