The fellow member level recognizes educators who are earlier in their careers as health professions educators but who are already demonstrating the potential for major and on-going contributions to health professions education within Duke Health or the professions.

Duke AHEAD in partnership with the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, Duke Health and the Office of Graduate Medical Education is excited to announce the fifth annual Health Professions Education Day, September 20, 2019. This celebration spotlights health professions educators and their remarkable innovations and achievements. As part of this year’s celebration, Duke AHEAD will be accepting poster abstracts for presentation.

Duke AHEAD is excited to announce the 4th annual Interprofessional Excellence Award for professionals and staff. Up to two awards will be presented to faculty or professional staff member who demonstrates excellence in interprofessional education.

2019 DASHE Recipients

Congratulations to our 2019 DASHE voucher recipients.  DASHE Vouchers are designed to be used in a wide variety of ways by connecting our educators with high quality academic services that facilitate their engagement in scholarly work.

Applications Now Being Accepted for 2019 Certificate Program

We are excited to offer an opportunity for faculty who are interested in health professions education as a career to apply for our Certificate in Health Professions Education & Teaching.

Now in it's fourth year, this 12-month program will allow up to 10 faculty, professional staff, or fellows from the School of Nursing, Physical Therapy Program, Physician Assistant Programs, School of Medicine, Duke University Health System, and Professors of the Practice of Medical Education to participate.

Evidence Based Medicine Workshop Scholarships Available

Three scholarships are available for the nationally-recognized “Teaching and Leading Evidence-Based Medicine” Workshop, which will be held at Duke Medicine from April 2nd – April 5th, 2019. These scholarships are reserved for residents, fellows, and faculty who can bring Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) back to Duke academic and residency programs. The workshop focuses not only on practicing EBM, but also on teaching EBM, making it an ideal educational opportunity for rising chief residents or faculty involved in teaching residents and/or students. 

Steering Committee Member Promoted

Steering Committee member and AHEAD Fellow, Dr. Deborah Engle has been promoted to Associate Professor of the Practice of Medical Education.  Dr. Engle is the Assistant Dean for Assessment & Evaluation in the School of Medicine and has been on the AHEAD steering committee since it's inception in 2014.  Congratulations, Dr. Engle!

AHEAD Member Featured as Blue Devil of the Week

Our own Margie Molloy, DNP was selected as this week's Blue Devil of the Week featured in Working@Duke. Dr. Molloy is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Direction of the Center for Nursing Discovery. From the article: “I think the students believe we have all the answers, but I think it’s important that they know that we’re still learning, all of us. When we stop learning, that’s when we run into trouble.” Congratulations Dr. Molloy!
